One of the many benefits provided by the New York State Mover’s & Warehouseman’s Association is the Grievance Assistance Program (GAP). This program allows an individual to file a complaint with the New York State Department of Transportation whenever they come across a mover who is operating illegally.

There are many complaints that are common, such as operating without authority, tariff violation and unlawful advertising, to name a few.

As the number of illegal operators proliferate, the number of dissatisfied customers increase. Unfortunately, consumers do not make the distinction between a legitimate, licensed, qualified mover, and an illegal, fly-by-night operator. To the violated consumer, a mover is a mover. The bad guys generate the publicity, but you, as a legitimate mover, suffer.

This program is an easy, safe method of putting a stop to many of the bad actors and illegal actions which are giving you such bad customer relations and bad press. The program is available to all members at no charge. To file a GAP complaint, simply contact the Association’s office with the information. The complaint will be forwarded to the NYS DOT. Your identity will not be disclosed. You will be sent copies of any correspondence from the DOT relating to your complaint. The Association will monitor your complaint to see that the DOT takes action.
