Governor Signs Illegal Mover Bill into Law!!

We are pleased to report that Governor Hochul has signed the Illegal Mover bill into law!

A7994-A, sponsored by Assemblymember Michael Cusick and S7127-A, sponsored by Senator Andrew Gounardes, will help to curb illegal movers in New York by giving the Attorney General enforcement powers against those operating without obtaining a certificate of authority from the Department of Transportation.  The Association has strongly supported this legislation for a number of years, and the hope is that with this stronger enforcement regime in place, there will be a crackdown on illegal movers in a real and meaningful way that will not only eliminate illegal movers from business permanently but also will deter other individuals from operating illegally.

We will be working with the legislature and the Attorney General’s office to figure out next steps and work to get these provisions implemented. We would like to thank the bill sponsors for their support and dedication to this issue as well as the Department of Transportation for their help in finding a way to help combat illegal movers in New York.
